The Dear John letter to my school uniform.

Goodbye you old, boring summer cottons,

And goodbye , you old drab, sullen winter woollens.

We had a 14 year long relation and I’ve been wanting to move on.

I can’t handle this life of monotony, it’s time for us to part ways.

There’s someone new, no, more like many of those new ones.

They’ve been waiting in the closet, unable to come out,

because you’ve been covering me for all these years.

They come in various shapes, some larger, some narrower.

Some are white, some are black, and still others of all kinds of colours.

They touch my skin in all new ways, and I am excited to be with them from now on.

I am looking forward to a different one everyday.

I am tired of being seen with you every morning.

Wouldn’t it be rad if something new drapes over me, every time I’m out?

Some may be casual, some more formal, maybe ethnic or maybe exotic.

Some days I might go with something sporty and somedays I might prefer dressy.

What they’ll not be, is what every-body else is wearing.

So goodbye to you old, boring summer cottons,

And goodbye, you old drab, sullen winter woollens.

We spent 14 years together and I am now moving on.
